Ask Jaime H-B to overturn Citizens United

Tonight’s GA voted to co-sponsor a MoveOn.org action for tomorrow, Wednesday June 20. At noon, we will gather in front of Jaime Herrera-Beutler’s Vancouver office to deliver a petition signed by 781 residents of the 3rd Congressional District. The petition asks her support for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and get big money out of politics.

This inot a demonstration or rally. Rather it is simply a request for assistance from a group a constituents. None the less, I feel there will be more impact if there is a crowd there to present the petition.

Here is the wording of the petition:

Dear Congresswoman Herrera Beutler:
781 of your constituents have signed a petition asking you to support a constitutional amendment
to overturn Citizens United and get big money out of politics for good.
Supreme Court decisions, including Citizens United, let big corporations and wealthy individuals
spend unlimited amounts of money on elections–in secret and without accountability–so that
politicians answer to them instead of voters.
Will you support a constitutional amendment that overturns Citizens United and gets big money
out of politics for good? If you do, we will count you as one of many elected officials who have
already agreed–along with 70% of the American public–to support a constitutional amendment.
